Armita Faghani Jadidi, Iran

Armita Faghani was born in the province of Bobolsar (Mazandaran, Iran) in 1991. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering (2014 and 2017, respectively) from Amirkabir University of Tehran (Tehran Polytechnic). Her background is in cognitive science, bio-signal processing, and machine learning.

Armita's Ph.D. project aimed to investigate the effects of modulated electrical stimulation (MES) patterns on cortical and corticospinal excitability with an eventual rehabilitation goal for phantom limb pain (PLP) patients. Through her first Ph.D. study on healthy subjects, the excitability of corticospinal pathways and possible motor cortical map plasticity following MES input were evaluated by using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and recording Motor Evoked Potential (MEP). Results of this study have been published in Neuroscience.
For the next studies, she has recorded the Electroencephalography (EEG) signals and perceived sensation before and following selected electrical stimulation patterns from the first study to investigate possible alteration in cortical activity and sensation profile by MES. In line with this, sensory evoked potentials and functional connectivity in sensory/pain-related brain areas have been evaluated. She also had three experimental sessions with an amputee to examine the selected MES pattern on the affected nervous system.

This project will be part of the future goal, applying two-way sensory input (music and MES together) to study the effects of long-term multi-sensory input on patients with PLP experience.
